  1. ok i use dvd shrink 1.03 to rip my dvds onto my computer then i use pinnacle instant copy to burn it onto a blank dvd with no stratches what so ever on it. when i play the movie its seems to be fine but then it will skip at certain points in the movie, it looks like its all pixelated like a streaming video that is buffering. Now you would think its the disc right but when i watch it in my xbox the movie is crystal clear with no skiping at all. I've tried it in two dvd players and one is a very good dvd player. So why does it skip and how do i fix it, any and all suggestion would be appreciated.

  2. probably because your dvd player isn't compatible with the type of media you are using...(i.e. +/-)

What kind of discs are you using? I ask because bad media is a common cause of the behavior you reported.

  4. so what can i do to fix this, the type of dvds i'm using are either memorex or dhypermedia, both are pretty good, and why is it that they play perfect on the xbox but not on regular dvd players. i actually tried it on three if you count my friends too.

Memorex depending on which disc you get are not very good. Khypermedia are CMC and considered awful. I'm willing to bet money its disc based on what you are using. Try some Ritek G04s or some good Maxell, or Apple brand disc and As long as they are the good ones you'll be fine.

BTW Brand doesn't mean as much as the media code on the disc(which can be fund with dvdinfopro) CMC and Princo go under many names, some of which are namebrand such as Memorex. However SOME Memorex +Rs are Ricoh and are great.

    Solution: Try better media.

Neither Memorex, nor KHyper media are good brands of media. Memorex has one of the worse reps for DVD media. KHyper will use whatever OEM currently has the lowest price (Lead Data, Princo, CMC).

The XBox most likely uses a higher quality laser than the DVD player's do. Since the XBox is pretty much a computer, it uses a PC DVD-ROM.

Try using some high quality media like Fuji Film, Maxell, or Made In Japan TDKs.

What brand/model of DVD players did you try them on? Also, brand doesn't necc. mean anything. I have a $40 Apex that has a better picture, more features, and higher playback compatibility than my $179 Toshiba. With age, a dvd player's lens and spindel motor can also wear, causing skips, sputters, and pixels. If your player is 2+ years old, bite the bullet and get a newer updated model.

  7. i've got a jvc dvd player that is made to play all types of cds dvds, and i tried it on a sony and a low quality one too. Ok i should have said this in my post but my brother has a laptop and he rips his dvds on that and burns them on the computer that i use and he usually watches them in the xbox and in the sony dvd player and they work perfect. I thought it might be dvd shrink but what do you think, i really don't wanna give up dvd shrink because its really simple and you get the entire dvd, in the newer versions of dvd shrink its not the same.

No need to give up DVDShrink at all, just stop using crappy media. We've all been though this a million times. I've run tons of test on tons of media over the last few years, Memorex and Khypermedia are NOT good brands, thats the whole of the story.

  9. ok i understand that some media is better than others but why is it that when my brother rips them on his laptop and burns them onto the same exact media that i'm having trouble with his work perfect. And I kinda have a lot of these khypermedia's anyway to salvage them.

You might want to try a different burning method.

For instance take the VIDEO_TS folder that DVDShrink outputs and use the classic version of ImgTools to create an ISO IMAGE file. This process does not take a long time (only a few minutes).

Once you have created an ISO IMAGE file you can then burn that to a DVD using DVD Decrypter in ISO WRITE mode.

This is one of the best ways of making a compliant DVD. It might help.

If you still have trouble then you have no choice but to use the remaining DVD blank discs as coasters.

It can also be the type of burner's you're using. Some burners are just better than others with different brands of media. Pioneer burners tend to burn cheap crap a little better than say a NEC or Sony. BUT 99% of all burners will give the same high quality results with high quality media.

What speed are you burning these KHypers at? Perhaps lowering it to 1x, if not already will improve your chances.

Does your brother use the same method as you? Some burning programs will actually interface differently with a burner. It depends on which interface the program is using. In Windows 2K/XP you have a choice of ASPI, ASAPI, SPTI, ElbyCDIO, PX, Gear ASPI, maybe even more. Depending on your motherboard's chipset, burner's firmware, and how the planets are lined up, certain I/O interfaces can yield different results.

  12. With the XBOX it really depends on which DVD unit is in the system i.e. phillips or thompson
Ive also found that different standalone players work with different media for some any media will be fine and for others you will need high quality media such as ritek or the higher standard princo

we can safely say high quality media is whats needed there is no substitute!

  14. You must not be thinking of DVDShrink, because all versions can rip/transcode the whole DVD or parts of it.
