Convert 2.35.1 aspect ratio to 1.78.1 and burn to DVDR

Is there a way or a program that will convert my 2.35.1 DVDs to an aspect ratio of 1.78.1 and then burn it back into a DVD+R? Unfornately, the anamorphic DVD isn't fully fill my widescreen HDTV despite so much rave about it.

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

You could use TMPGEnc to do that......of course you're going to lose horizontal resolution by doing so.

ok, now I have a better understanding of your reason to change from a
2.35 to a 1.78, but really, you are actually distorting the AR. That 2.35 is
the actual Aspect Ratio for a 16:9, and you need the black bars there, for
it to be correct. I know you want to fill your ws tv set, but there are several
different flavors of ws presentations. The old (slightly original) way was
the 16:9 (or, 1:77777778.1) or 1.78 which filled a standard ws tv set. Then,
they decided to add other AR variations, but still maintaining the AR for the
16:9 view. The only downside to this is that on some them, you'll notice
a few small boarders. Example, the 1.85 will give you some small boarders
but barely noticable. But, the 2.35 is a much more smaller video area,
giving you more boarders to your screen. But, this is still normal, and still
in the same correct AR for your 16:9 because it's using the 16:9 matrix.

If you go and stretch it, you'll be effectively stretching the people (taller)
on your set.

A 16x9 WS TV has an aspect ratio of 1.78:1

So to watch a movie with an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 you have to have some black above/below the image to preserve the aspect ratio.

The only option to fill the screen is to stretch the image to fit which will cause distortion (people looking too tall and thin) or to cut some off of the sides so that you are enlarging the image to fit from top to bottom and of course that is NOT a good idea and goes against the concept of WIDESCREEN which is to KEEP the aspect ratio and the entire image.
