  1. I am planning to create a video of a kind of famility tree timeline. At the bottom of the screen I intend to show ongoing horizontal scale type lines indicating dates / years (similar to an old fashion ruler).
In the upper portion I intend to put pictures and film. I dont see a problem creating this in Vegas with the opacity envelopes but I dont know how to create the bottom portion / let me call it the ruler effect.

Can anybody give me some advise on this ?

Try Adobe After Effects, and create a composition. You can download a thirty day trial frome Adobe, the help file will guide you through the basics of creating composites and animation.

  4. Thanks for the replies however, Adobe After Effect has a list price of $699.00 for Std Full and 999.00 for Pro Full (not in my budget) and 'Maps & Lines' from "Martyhedler.com" are very good but not really useful for creating my ruler effect with short vertical lines with dates on them at the bottom of the screen running thruout my video.
I appreciate any other advise. Thanks.
