Can't play an Nero 6 authored and burned dvd on my ATI playe

I followed Lordsmurfs guide to convert vhs to avi using an ATI AIW card. I used Nero 6 to author and burn a DVD +R disk (memorex) using a liteon 411 burner. I added menus and chapters before the burn.
The burn was successful but I'm not able to view the the disk using the ATI DVD software. It seems to recognize that I have a DVD loaded and that it is 4:3. But when I click play I only get a blank screen.
In addition, I tried to play it on an Apex 600a with similiar results.
I also tried real magic hollywood (holliwood plus card on diff machine) with similiar results. The real magic software will play the movie when I find the right file.
The Nero software reads and plays the DVD ok.
Any sugestions would be appreciated.

Nero is doing something odd. I use real authoring software, not Nero. Try that. Nero is only good at burning.

I'm trying to convert sony 8 mm analog to DVD. To be played on my stand alone player for my family. I used the guide on lordsmurf's site to capture to AVI using the ATI software.
What other guides do you recommend to get it to a DVD?
