I have been informed that the Pal dvd disks I have sent to my

friend in the USA will most likely not play back from his DVD PAL\NTSC

    player !

Anyone suggest a simple\newbie software to convert the ripped files

from hard drive to an conversion so they will play back on his TV ?

    Regards

  2. Look to the left - see the section "Guides" ?

Good starting point, that little lot.

  3. Some DVD players do PAL to NTSC decoding on the fly. Your friend just needs to check the guides on the left or if you know what type of player your friend has, you could check for him. I have several APEXs DVD players and all of them converts PAL to NTSC. The only Problem that I see is if the DVD is region code 2. USA is region 1. Some players allow you, through remote control hacks, firm ware upgrade... etc to bypass or set your player to other region codes. The same guides of the left should help.

I hope this was some help.
    good luck

  5. Nobody said it was easy - that's why you can spend several hundred pounds plus on convertors. The two formats are not directly compatible, here in the UK we have thinks a little easier, most modern sets will handle NTSC, but most NTSC sets will not handle PAL. Some DVD players have a certain level of conversion onboard these days, but if you want it done properly it will either cost in time or money.

Those guides are about as good as you will get, or alternatively look at doom9.org.

    Thanks Both,

His DVD player is lasonic DVD 1100 which will play back both
PALl\NTSC, but know not if it will convert on the fly!

I will take your advice and checkout the player to see if it does or not .

Then back to the drawing board to check out other sites\posts.

    Many thanks

What will happen if u run a PAL DVD on an NTSC Xbox?

I ask because when I run NTSC DVDs on my PAL Xbox it actually converts the NTSC video into PAL on the fly and I not only keep the video in colour but it kept the sharpness of the image as well.

I'm not sure if that's the same case if you did PAL DVDs on an NTSC Xbox.

    My Lasonic 1100 is multisystem
(PAL playback on NTSC TV, NTSC playback on PAL TV)

It also has a region-free hack via remote conrol

    Hi tompika,

Thats what I'm looking for if what you say is correct then

its sorted and no worries on the convert side.

I suppose it depends on the model for which country its in if the player

is uniform then what you say should do the trick.

    Many thanks
