    1) I have a SONY burner and advise against it. Take a Pioneer or a LiteOn.

    2) There were times when Nero didn't know how to burn DVD Video and I didn't know how to use Nero. I found relief in RecordNow DX (that came with the SONY). I now use Nero 5.5.10.54 and 6 . Still have RecordNow DX but no use for it.

    3) Way back, I was using SmartRipper. Until it failed on me. Since then I use DVDDecrypter without a single rip or decode failure. Also, DVDDecrypter appears to be much more capable in ripping damaged disks. Still use SmartRipper for demuxing ripped disks. (Not because DVDDecrypter can't do it, just that I learned my way within SmartRipper for that).
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

The #1 most problematic burner (as per lordsmurf.com questions) is the SONY burner line. Most burner hardware issues/conflicts are SONY in nature.

If you don't yet have a DVD burner you might want to wait just a wee bit longer as dual layer DVD burners will be comming out sometime in 2004

Well I have to add my .02 here... I have just gotten started with DVDs and I loved nero for burning CDs so using DVD workshop, I would write the .iso file to the hard drive and use nero to burn the image to the DVD. Every single one has worked thus far. After reading many posts on these forums, I had put a post up asking for advice to achieve the lowert error/most compatible DVD.. Part of the advice people had given me was to use RecordNow for the burning of the DVD. I've tried two so far, and both have turned out to be coasters. When I put them in my Sony tabletop DVD player, it gives the message "disc is dirty"...so maybe someone can give me some insight into why this is happening, but until then, I think I'm going to go back to good ol' Nero!

    1) I use a Sony DRU500 and it's worked great, but don't know enough about Pioneer burners to recommend one over another.

    2) Nero - I've used enough burning software to know that for burning alone, Nero is great. DVD clone is good for cutting out menus but haven't tried it's burning funcrtion.

    3) DVDdecrypter or Smartripper.
    Regards,

    Rob
