  1. I converted a DVD to a DivX file. When I try playing it in Window Media Player 9.0 it mentions in the status bar - looking for codec and then errors out saying cannot play the file. I tried it with BSPlayer too. I have the code DivX Codec 4.12 installed. What am I missing?
I used FairUse 0.35 to do the conversion to DivX.

When I conver to XVid the file is playable both in the WMP and BSPlayer. I wanted to find out if XVid was better or DivX.

  2. Issue resolved. I went to the advanced options of FairUse 0.35 and found that the codec expected was DivX 5.1.1 - so downloaded the this codec from Divx.com and I can now play the files.

I couldn't however decide whether XVid was better quality or the DiVX file. I converted the same dvd with the exact same audio bit rate and file size.
