As im sure most of you are aware Micros*ft is planning on a price drop for the XBox (supposedly down to $99 by late summer)
Im thinking this would make for a great DVD Backup Machine.
several problems
1. Xbox has only 64megs of RAM
while this is enough for Linux to be run on an XBox, what kind of problems would this present for Ripping DVDs
...right now im using WinXP , AnyDVD (which claims to need 64 megs of RAM) CloneDVD for the Ripping (which claims to need 128 Megs of RAM) and Nero to burn the DVD-Rs
2.What programs would be used to
(A) RIP the DVDs
(B) Shrink them down to DVD-r size (if program A doesnt do that)
(c) Burn the finished Rip to a DVD-R
Since all the programs i use work really great id love to be able to set up an Xbox under Linux and use Wine or another progy that allows you to run windows software and then just run the programs im using now. Could that be done with just 64Megs of RAM (would it work but just run slower????)
Thanks all

I use CloneDVD and AnyDVD in Windows for my backups, but I can't get them to work in wine or winex, I am still looking for a comprable solution in Linux to my Windows setup, If xbox drops to $99 I will most likely use it stream media to my TV, ripping sounds a little too much for 64 mb

I have Slayer EvoX installed on my Xbox and can rip dvd's right now, but there is no encoder for it that I know of. I use it only as a front and machine for watching videos/listening to mp3's with XBMC (Xbox Media Center). I do all the other stuff on my PC.

Bit late with an answer but I think what you are looking for there is either Myth-tv or dvd::rip.
Myth-Tv is the absolute bomb. It does everything but blow me for breakfast.
It streams music, videos, pictures, it plays MAME, it sucks up all my time trying to get it to work on my old Duron but I hear very encouraging things about the Xbox version. -
You could always do the RAM Mod. I'm not big in the XBOX scene, but I do know there is a mod for more RAM
