I ordered a dvd from the UK and it's pal which won't play on US dvd players. I found a lot of ways to convert from forums about demuxing converting ect.
I wanted to try a new way that won't be so much work. and.. I found it.
After ripping the pal dvd to HD with dvd decrypter import it into easy cd/dvd creator. You can choose which episode or movie to import. Then I burned it to a dvd+rw to test it. Only things that sucks is you can only burn to a dvd not to your hd and since I don't care for the menu options in easy cd creator I used a dvd+rw. I then copied the dvd+rw to my hd and used tmpgenc dvd author to reauthor and add chapters.

Sounds like all you did was remove the region coding with DVD Decrypter. Your DVD player obvioulsy has the ability to play PAL video. To show this, open up your DVD in Power DVD and look at its properties. It'll still say that it is PAL.

    No it won't play pal.
I burned it after dvd decrypter and it still wouldn't play untill I re-encoded it with ez cd/dvd creators DVD builder. Smart Ripper says it's a ntsc after running it through dvd builder.
I did notice Smart Ripper said it was a mpeg 1 instead of 2 which was wierd since it was a dvd, but it plays fine.

I discovered this way by trying diffterent programs.

I just run dvd builder (build 1.2.0.111) and Select Import files. Then go to the folder where you ripped the dvd. Then select the title you want to import. It will take about 1-2 min to import. (it says ripping title). Then make the menu look like you want it (unless your going to use a tmpgenc dvd author to re-do your menu and add chapters.) ( If it needs to be shrunk to fit then do that first)
Then put in your dvd rw and burn. Then it will start encoding the movie. You see the movie playing while it does it so it takes just over an hour for an hour of video.

I don't know if it converts it or just tricks your dvd player into thinking it's a ntsc dvd. All I know is that it works and the quality looks like the original.

The dvd was The six million dollar man 1 which you can't get here in the US. I bought it at www.amazon.co.uk ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005ABUB/qid=1075570985/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_0_1...405743-8319852)
It had 3 episodes. I took the episodes bigfoot part 1 and part 2 and put them in dvd author and put them on the same track. set end point in part 1 just after the "to be continued" (cutting out the credits) Then in part 2 cut out the beginning title. That way instead of having 2 seperate episodes, I have a 1:30 movie. I like to do this with episodes that have a part 1 and 2.

All this method does ... or so it seems ... is change the header information (probably in the IFO files) to read NTSC specs.

This doesn't always work 100% and depending on how the PAL DVD is encoded it will not look all that great.

The only true way to do it is to re-encode with an MPEG encoder such as TMPGEnc or CCE etc. converting it from PAL to NTSC in the process. Such a true conversion converts the frame rate and the resolution and depending on the proceedure used you will also have to adjust the audio as well.

When I open the converted vob files in virtualDubMod and analize it, it says 720 x 480 and 29.970 frame rate. The original says 720 x 576 with 25.000 frame rate. So it does convert the frame rate. And the quality is just as good a the original.

There is no way it did a "true" conversion.

That would take a LONG LONG time.

Again it changed changed header info.
