I have a 105 with most recent firmware.
For some wierd reason, all of a sudden I am given the option to burn at 4X to my TDK 2X media (A few days ago I was only given the option to burn at 1X-2X, *now* I get 1X,2X,3X,4X)
Burning with Nero 5.5.9.9
1) will this hurt my drive?
2) will it burn properly?

No, a couple of things control what speed the burner allows burning a certain disk at.
1: Firmware
2: Disk media ID and speed code imbedded on blank DVD
3: Burning software
If your burner will burn it at 4x, you won't hurt the burner, but if the media can't handle it you may see cracking of the media and or playback problems.
You likely have some disks that simply have the 4x ID code in them, even if you bought them as only 2x disks.
What firmware version do you have? -
Try it out and come back and tell us! I'd love to know if I can use 2x media and burn at 4x on my 106!

You have a 4x drive, so of course you can burn at 4x! The TDKs are Ritek 4x discs!
