Panasonic DMR-E100HS New model seems to be very good on paper
Has any body used it ?
I am interested to buy one will save lot of time than using ADVC-100 and then encoding to DVD?
----------------------------------
Selectable Recording Modes
You can set your recorder to one of five different recording speeds, each varying in recording quality and length. EP mode yields the most recording time, LP & SP modes provide less recording time with higher quality recording, and XP mode gives you the highest quality recording. There's also the FR (Flexible Recording) mode that lets you record with the best picture quality possible for the recording time and remaining space on the disc.
Recording Times And Data Rates
Advanced MPEG2 Encoding Using Hybrid VBR Technology
We combined two encoding technologies, Real time VBR (Variable Bit Rate) and Visibility Modulation Technology, to provide MPEG2 recording with superb picture quality. Here's how it works: Real Time VBR adjusts the bit rate according to video signal complexity, in order to optimize the compression ratio. At the same time, Visibility Modulation Technology reduces compression for the most noticeable parts of each signal while it filters out unimportant data to raise compression in other areas. This combination helps assure incredible picture quality for your preferred DVD-RAM recording mode.
Improved Video Quality in Analog-to-Digital Transfer
Input TBC, 3D Y/C separation circuitry, and 3D digital noise reduction are particularly effective when recording from analog video sources such as conventional VHS or S-VHS VCRs. Input TBC is a built-in time base corrector that delivers highly stable, natural images. The 3D Y/C Separation Circuitry minimizes the dot crawl and color smearing caused by interference between the video signal's Y and C color subcomponents. And, 3D Digital Noise Reduction effectively removes noise components from the signal during playback.

If I was you get the E80H the E100Hs is picky with some 4X media. I just hate buy media and going home think will these disc work. If you realy want a E100HS go to www.meritline.com and buy a sample pack of media to see what media your player like's. My E80HS take's every thing I put in it.
Also Panasonic recorder's are very good but you will need a sima box to get rip of macrovision thats VHS copy protection. I have Star Wars on VHS and I can not use my E80 to make a back up. Even with my Sima box. The one good thing about Panasonic is that you get to keep the Close Caption subtitle's if you want them. When it come's to VHS there is not best way to do it. I have a ATI AIW and a Dazzle 2 and a Panasonic E80H and I use them all some time's one has problem's with one tape and use one of the other two.
One very good thing ATI AIW have videosoap to clean up the picture. Panasonic use a TBC. On the Panasonic when you do VHS some time's record slow it will take out more noise from bad tape's.
Panasonic I wold say make the best recorder's. I would say get one. If you have any problem's with VHS tape's get a ATI AIW for $33.00 dollars from www.pricewatch.com and get a Dazzle 2 from ebay just go to www.dazzlegeek.com for info on the capture card. some very old AMD mother board's do not like Dazzle 2. You can get one for around $50.00 dollars
Buy your DVD recorder form www.6ave.com you will not find a cheeper place in the world. -
"If I was you get the E80H the E100Hs is picky with some 4X media"
When do they write at 4x? They write at real time. I don't know the speed of HD to dvdr for this model. I only use Accu disks with my recorders, they work great. -
on e100 you can not picky the burning speed it will burn the disc at what the disc is so if yo buy 4X it will only burn at 4X. They do not let you slow it dowb to 2X to have a more stable burn if some media is picky get the E80 to be safe.

Panasonics in generals are your only option for capturing old crappy vhs. They correct alot of errors other dvd recorders don't.

I use a e30 & just copy directly to a dvd-r. Can also copy to a dvdram & then edit on that & copy to a dvd-r on a PC.
