I am using TMPGEnc Plus 2.5, and around 80-85% I get the stream write error. I can't figure out what's going on! This has happend to me 3 times, with 2 different Divx movies.

My file system is NTFS under Windows XP Home. Before I start my encoding I have about 8-9 GB free hard disk space, and when TMPGEnc crashes I have about 4 GB free. My DirectShow VFAPI priority is 2 like I have read some people suggest. I have no idea what is happening!! I do have Norton Antivirus Auto-Protect disabled (though it is still in the taskbar) and I also have Norton Personal Firewall disabled (it is still in the taskbar as well).

I assume I have enough hard drive space, and my file system is not FAT32 which apparently can cause problems too. Please help

Update: I just ran my Divx through DivFix and it tells me I have 3 errors - corrupted frames. I'm going to try and fix these problems and see what happens

i don't think your Firewall or AV is at all the issue here. I'd get some more drive space first and foremost.
Run Disk Defragmenter and see how that goes.
It may well not be a total soultion but it will clean up yor drive somwhat.
I'm guessing your got a paging issue. I don't in any way think your problem is with TMPGnc.

So I tried converting a Divx movie which DivFix says has no errors, and I got the same error! Stream writing error around 76%. ARGH!!

    I'll try bobbysox's suggestions. Thanks.

  4. what you could try to do is frameserve the avi (using virtualdub) to tmpgenc.
Are you removing the audio out (ex, use virtualdub)and then letting tmpgenc convert the separate streams into one? Basically you will be converting:

    1.avi video
    1.wav audio

Yes my original plan was to use TMPGEnc to encode the video and then use Virtualdub to encode the audio. I haven't yet tried to encode the audio since the I have been focusing on trying to get the video encoding to work.
