If you yank out only 1 VOB file from a DVD chances are it won't have aend-of-file marker. This confuses the encoding software and makes it crash. The solution is to strip out all the VOB file sinto one large file (check the settings on DVDDecrypter or SmartRipper). Then demux the single large VOB file into elementary video m2v and audio mpa streams. Then convert the mpa stream to a WAV file and sample-rate conver the 48 khz audio to 44.1 khz. Next run an MPEG-1 encoder on the m2v elementary video stream
using the sample-rate-converted 44.1 khz WAV file as audio input.
Finally, use a program like Womble MPEG VCR to cut the large MPEG-1 file into smaller 700 meg blocks. -
What spectroelectro says is basically right except you don't need to do any audio conversions. Mainconcept will happily take an mpa file and do the sample rate conversion quite adequately. I believe it will also create seperate files at a size you designate.
This is all assuming that your vob audio is mp2/mpa - I don't believe that was mentioned? If it's a commercial DVD chances are the audio is in Ac3 format.
