  1. hi again

When I'm playing MPGs in media player 9, some of them will only show as being a short clip (usually under a minute) when they may be much longer.

The whole thing plays but there is no way to know how long they are or to seek ahead if I'm just checking the file out to see if it's something worth keeping.

Is this something with Media player 9 or the MPG file and is there a way to fix it?

    Thanks.

  4. It does the same whenever you playback Lame encoded audio (MP3) with a Fraunhofer DShow filter (Windows OEM).

Maybe the audio track was encoded with the Lame ACM.

  5. maybe, but the same file can be opened in another computer with no problem

so my media player (or my configuration) is the problem
my friend and i have the same media player, soundcard, etc

so i dont hace a clue of what can it be...

  6. Perhaps something you have installed has replaced or overridden the default MS MPEG decoder (if it's an MPEG 1 file) or your MPEG2 decoder is buggy.

Programs like Ulead's editing software and a bunch of others somethimes do this.

If it's an MPEG2 file, the easiest thing to do is try playing it with Media Player Classic, since it has it's own MPEG2 decoder and see if it does the same thing.

If you just have to keep using WMP, try getting yourself a copy of something like the Ligos decoder, which is DirectShow compatible.
