  1. Ok, so let's say that I capture some video from an interlaced source, keeping it interlaced, and encoding it to some form of MPEG stream...

Will the video look like this: (disclaimer: I'm hosting this pic myself not stealing bandwidth from 100fps :P)

I know that if interlaced video is played back though WinDVD/whatever, that it will deinterlace it, but what I am asking is if i capture INTERLACED video to an MPEG stream, WITHOUT deinterlacing it; will it have the funny lines or not?

    Thanks!

  3. If you view it on an interlaced monitor, than no. If you view it on a progressive monitor, then yes.

    Computer monitors are progressive.

Televisions are Interlaced (except for new HDTVs, which are like big computer monitors).

  4. Capturing interlaced and buring interlaced will look best on interlaced tv. If you deinterlace it it won't look as good on tv. Good HDTV's usually have good comb filters in them, so I would suggest if you are captuing interlaced then keep it that way; better quality all around.

Even interlaced video shouldn't look that bad on a monitor. It looks like you have the frame order wrong. Change your settings to the opposite of what you have set (frame order A or Frame order B).

As you said, WinDVD or PowerDVD can deinterlace it at playback and you won't see the lines even if it's captured interlaced. But if you turn off the deinterlacing at playback then you'll se the lines on the computer but not on TV if played on a standalone DVD player.
