if you are using your burner to rip it will take forever, invest in a seperate dvd reader like the Lite On at Walmart for $40. Also show some specs for your sysem as well as operating system for us to help you further.

i have a NEC 16x dvd-rom drive and i'm ripping an entire dvd in less that 15 minutes... i've read that making sure that the drive that is doing the ripping, works faster if it's set as the "master" instead of "slave" on the ide cable.
that's the way i have mine setup... don't know if that would help you guys or not...
there is also a post on this forum that takes about this:

I have a NEC 4x dvd burner, the read spead is supposed to be 12x. But using DVD decrypter it starts out around 2x then slowly it increases speed till it hits 4x. I have a 3.2Ghz P4 with 2x80GB SATA HDD in RAID 0. It takes like 30 minutes for it to copy a full dvd. My dvd burner is on IDE and my hard drives are on a different controller.
Can i not rip faster than this? -

NEC burners are not popular where I'm at so I have not had the chance to test one, but some brands are locked at a certain ripping speed and can be unlocked for a faster response - same goes for some DVD readers as well!
