  1. I have the original AVI file that I pulled down from my camcorder, which is 10gb in size. I converted it with TMPGENC via the guides on this site to the DVD MPEG2 format. The new MPEG file is approximately 1.6gb in size.

When I play the new MPEG file on my computer the video seems "CHOPPIER" then the original AVI file. It just doesn't flow as 'smooth' as it should. I mean the original AVI is real video, and moves very nice, the motions of the people are fluid, etc. But on the new encoding they seem a little 'choppier.' Also, when i do burn it to a dVD and play it in a DVD player, when there is motion the entire picture gets super BLOCKY and such, but in still shots its pretty high quality.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    System Specs:

    Pentium 4, 2.4ghz
    768mb RDRAM PC1066
    Hard Drive space 8gb/80gb
GeForce 4, MX 420 Video Card
Windows XP SP1 with all current patches/updates.

  2. Can someone please help me? When I burn the video and play it in my DVD players the video gets really BLOCKY and such whenever the camera pans/moves.

Perhaps I did something wrong when encoding it? I followed the provided instructions in the guides.

    Thanks!

    Hi SirMack,

    These two links:

    http://dvd-hq.info/Compression.htmland

    http://www.lordsmurf.com/convert/tmpgenc/tmpgencplus.htm

...both provide good details on the settings in TMPGEnc. The first is specifically for DVD compliant MPEG2, with the second being for MPEG1 & 2.

I hope they help, or are at least of interest.

In the meantime, post what settings you used in TMPGEnc - These will be useful in identifying any problems there.

Post back on how you got on...

EDIT - I've seen this in a topice before, and found it. I didn't have the time to read it, but it might be of use:
