size problems

i m encoding from a xvid to svcd (VIDEO: DIVX, size: 608x256, ) with this size every thing looks fine after encoding when i watch the mpeg on the mac. when i burn it an put it in my dvd player its stretched he makes standard 480:480 if tried svcd16:9 al the same. which one do i have to choose to keep aspect ratio

SVCD has only one possible size: 480x480 for NTSC or 480x576 for PAL. Be sure you're following this guide.
