  1. Ok, I have an Athlon T-Bird (SDR) 1.GHz CPU at 100MHz Bus...and noticed that the mobo is capable of 133MHz Bus. Is there an SDR Athlon T-Bird capable of using the 133 Bus? (Wouldn't mind getting full use of the 256MB PC133 RAM I threw in.)

  2. I think all you need is the mobo to support and the 133 RAM...

  3. If it's a VIA KT133 chipset the answer is NO. It doesn't support 133 Mhz FSB but it support 133 Mhz SDR RAM. Only the KT133A chipset supports 133 Mhz FSB & SDR RAM. (SDR= single data rate).

In order to utilize the 133MHz FSB, you also need a version "C" Athlon (and the other stuff mentioned above).

  5. I seriously doubt it's a VIA KT133...I'm not sure what brand it is, but the only jumper on it is one for adjusting between 100MHz and 133MHz, it's MicroATX, and surprisingly (for how cheap this Compaq was) it has AGP.

  6. btw, it's a Compaq Presario 5102US

  7. Is there any marking on the motherboard as to a make and or model number?

  8. found this number on what i believe is the south bridge chip: "VIA VT82C686A"

  9. The switch on my EPOX motherboard for 100/133 changed the ram and CPU speed. I use the 133 ram and 266 bus thunderbird.

    nope....just a mobo with a multiplier selection and a #2 pencil....

  11. You need to change the multiplyer from 10x to 7.5x when going from 100 to 133, or else you will hit 1333 mhz and I do not think your CPU will run at this speed

  12. there isn't a multiplier jumper unfortunately (at least i couldn't find one), only the bus speed jumper

Well, there should be multiplier settings in the CMOS, man... How many years has it been since they eliminated real jumpers for CMOS settings? The last two motherboards I have had do not have like any jumpers... everything is done from the BIOS.

  14. jmiller the "VIA VT82C686A" is the south bridge and yes it part of the KT133 chipset. That chipset only works to about 110 Mhz. Via build into that chipset approx 10% headroom.

  15. So it's pointless to try to change the bus speed from 100 to 133?
