  1. I am having trouble converting XVID 23.976 to DVD. After converting and using dvdlab and clonedvd too burn when played in a standalone player the picture is jerky. The trouble is it only happens on 23.976 conversions. The choppy view is that it is kinda missing frames every now and then.

Take this movie :- here is what Gspot says

    XVID
    runtime 01:39:40 (143,387fr)
    x,y (576*304) 1.89:1[36:19]
    bitrate 876kb/s
    FPS 23.976
    Qf 0.202 bits/pixel
    AUDIO
    0*0055 id'd as MPEG 1 layer 3
    Bitrate 130 kb/s (65/ch, stereo) VBR LAME 3.89
    FS 48,000

I have used VDUB (which produces the VBR audio error warning when first loading the XVID file) saved the audio as uncompressed WAV and saved the video without the audio. I have also checked for bad frames and it can't find any.

I have then used CCE and TMPGENC and Mainconcept following guides found on this website. all come out a little choppy. Allthough CCE seems to produce the best video out of the lot but audio is a little out of sync even with uncommpressed wav file.

this only happens on 23.976 frame rates .

anybody any ideas. what bitrate should i encode audio in.

well, i think you should convert the framerate from 23.976 to 25 (PAL).
    for this:
open vdub, and change framerate, but before rip the audio to wav file. Save the video as AVI. (btw vdub dont understand XVID, so convert it to DIVX by AVIC)
once you've made the video in 25 fps, go into Besweet and convert wav file to be in Pal mode, i mean make conversion NTCS->PAL (there is a setting in Besweet).
So, now you have an avi and audio stream (in mp2, mp3 etc).
    you can make your dvd.

  3. try using dvd2svcd to rule out human error. Never had a problem with xvid conversions using this application (dvd2svcd also accepts avi AND it really an application, but rather automates the process of converting dvd's and avi's to svcd, cvd, dvd, and vcd).

There are a few guides which detail the steps for conversion.

  4. Thanks for the Help both Ideas work well. DVD2SVCD is very easy to use and since i have cce anyway i used this as the encoder. I converted to PAL and the Video is very smooth.

    THANKS
