I have searched the internet extensively for a way to import .vob files from DVD-R into Final Cut Pro 3. Is it possible without purchasing a lot of software?

You have to convert the video to DV. You can do that for free with DiVA. Thats the easy part. Getting audio to sync with it (if your source is an NTSC DVD) will cause you headaches beyond belief.

Thanks a million. Fortunately my .vob file is PAL and the sound isn't very important as most of it - if not all - will be replaced in Final Cut Pro 3 anyway.
