  1. Hey there, I'm new here. I'm using DVD2SVCD with TMPGENC.

I've got a few questions about the program.

    1. Is there any way I can decide WHERE the program splits the cd's? Like, most of my stuff is about 1 hour and 45 minutes. Where can I set it so that the "change cd" part is at a specific area?

    2. What does "avisynth" do?

    3. What does "bbMPEG" do?

    4. What's the finalize tab for.

    Please help me!

EDIT: just so this doesn't get modded for having the words DVD2SVCD, I'm talking about encoding avi's for VCD's.

I can answer a little of what you are asking. DVD2SVCD is not really a program, it's a GUI to run quite a few different programs to produce a SVCD. Avisynth is a frameserver for another part of the program. bbMPG is an AVI to MPG converter. Really, the reason DVD2SVCD is used is that you don't care what it does and how, it just works. The best way to use the program is to leave it at the defaults. The only change I have ever made is to activate internal ripping and set the CD size to 800. I have produced over 100 perfect SVCD's without doing anything else. If you want to understand 'exactly' what it does, you need to go the Doom9 site. As far as where it does the split, I believe you can change it, but it may get a little complicated. I just let it do it's thing and that's fine with me. Go to Doom9 site for more info. Edit: AVI to SVCD is a little more complicated. I rarely use it for that. You can do most of AVI to SVCD with TMPGEnc alone. Look to the guides to the left.

  3. thanks a lot!

I've already made one awesome vcd and was lucky enough that the split was a boring scene. I really want to prevent that so I think I'll wait till I do anything else.

So if I already use the TMPGENC with the program, then what's the bbMPEG for then?

bbMPEG is used because after the audio and video has been encoded they need to be brought back together again when either making VCD or SVCD. bbMPEG is just used for muxing and nothing else.

You can use DVD2SVCD's frame selection option and basically pick up to what scene you want the video to go up to (but this would require using DVD2SVCD twice, once for each CD), but that is only when using DVD as the input; I haven't used AVI2SVCD in a while but I think that option is greyed out when converting AVIs.

  5. oh darn. Well what I'm doing now (and the thing I think I can only do) is just cut it before hand with VirtualDub and then just work with each piece seperately.

  6. to answer your first question about how/when to do the split (basically giving you the ability to decide where that happens, I believe you need to checkmark the "use frame selection" checkbox on the conversion tab. After the video is done "ripping" (not true in the case of avi), a pop up has the video for you to split out where you want it.

I think the previous poster has answered your other questions.

  7. hmm...my "use frame selection" checkbox is grayed out....and it has nothing to do with the level (advanced, normal)
