  1. I emailed RIMA before buying the ink and they said they hadn't used the printer or carts themselve but severl orders for the ink have been processed and they've received no complaints at all on it. I think in a week or two I'll have to switch out the black, depending on how much printing I do with it. I'll post my results with it when the time comes. I've heard of a lot of people using the generics though with no complaints so I'm hoping it works out fine.

    The R200, right?
Is that all you've printed, just disks?
Man, if that's the case and you have roughly half ink left that's good going.
I really only intend to buy the R200 for disks only, so that's good to hear.

Yea, Ive only printed dvd discs. Well, I have printed like ONE photo and maybe 4 sheets of text paper. So, Im doing even better than I thought.

I may even set the quality down from best photo to just Photo and conserve even more. Unless Poppa_Meth posts that his ink cartidge gernerics are good, then Im going to print my azz off!

  4. My ink goes like mad, but I print full DVD inserts off of it too. I also knocked quality down to Photo, which comes out with barely noticable difference from Best Photo IMO on inserts or CD/DVD media. Of course I'm on my first set so a fair little bit was used to fill the heads. Hopefully the next set does better. I've noticed its taking longer to drain since I switched to Photo. I'm still experimenting looking for the best quality to ink consumption settings.

I'm gonna go ahead and buy, but over in the UK the difference in the R300 and R200 is marginal.
I don't need the facility to print without a PC, I suppose I can wait for the R200 (to be re-stocked at my local store).

I just got my R200 and I am absolutely blown away by the quality. I showed about 10 discs that I printed to my girlfriend and she thought they were the originals. When we looked at the originals, many of the discs that I printed looked better since I added pictures, etc. For $99, man is this a SWEET companion to have if you do a lot of DVD creation and care about labels.

Also, I'm not sure why there was some fuss about the Epson software that comes with the printer - I've been using it and it works fine for me. It's not the most sophisticated software package you'll ever find, but if you have photoshop, you can do what you need to do with your graphics, and then just use the Epson software to put the graphics on the label template. However, with that all being said, if someone knows of an even better software package to use (that's free), please let me know - but for now, the Epson software is fine.

Just got my R200 out of the box and it's awesome!! I own a EZ/CD Printer (it's the older one, based on a Epson C60 engine), and it was starting to give me problems - after printing over 2,000 dvds/cds, I can't complain. But the Epson R200 image quality is far superior and sooo much quieter and faster. I've found a source for the Epson R200 cartridges at $5, so printing costs won't be bad. I've printed about 50 dvds so far, and only used about 1/3 of my ink (evenly across the cartridges).

I don't use the Epson software for printing, I use Discus because I had allot of customized labels already built in it, just had to spend $20 to get the upgrade. Works like a champ.

Nice printer and can't beat the price!!

Just a heads up, but I picked up the Epson R300 today for $60!!!

The Gateway stores are going out of business and they had this printer (display unit, but some stores have NIB) and were selling it for a great price. Also got a Epson 1670 Scanner for $60.

However, it didn't include the Epson Software. Do I need this or can I use the printer without it? Would somebody be so kind to perhaps get me a copy of the disc if it's needed.

    Thanks

    jaxxboss,

It's true. The new CEO of Gateway announced last week that the 188 remaining Gateway stores will be closing as part of a restructuring

The last day of business for the retail stores is supposed to be next friday.

Supposedly, most of the PCs will be shipped back the the company for sale through the website, but display models of PCs, peripherals, and tvs are going to be sold off in the stores.

Yes it is true, I heard the same thing on the news on Friday or Thursday.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

Thanks for the tip. I think I'll call the two local ones near me and see if any of them happen to have this discounted. Perhaps I'll get lucky. As far as the software is concerned, try Epson's site as I'm sure they have the drivers etc. available for download.

  18. I ordered my Epson R300 last friday from buy.com for $158.00 with free shipping, that was the lowest price I found after comparing prices from number of websites on yahoo and other. There are other site offering that for $153 and some like that but charges 20 - 30 bucks for shipping. I bought my ps2 and many other stuff at buy.com this is good deal.

  22. my printing has slowed down considerably the past couple weaks and with what I've decided are my optimum print settings ink consumption has gone down quite a bit as well. Its taking a lot longer to burn them up now than I had predicted, not that I'm complaining!

Ditto with my ink consumption. Ive set my black and white prints to black only. This is in the hope that NO color will be used. It is my understanding that while printing only in black that some color will be used, but not alot. Also, depending on what I am printing, I have set various settings to print those out.

I mostly print at -2 print color correction on most of my printing, but do need to adjust it on a few prints. As far as photo quality I have my settings as such:
    manual
    plain paper
    photo
    A4

Again, I do have certain saved settings depending on the dvd print and what colors are there and how much.

Mailing addresses for address labels have its on saved setting as well as tv series that I collect.

    Im always tinkering.

Do you get a template with the printer (for CD's/DVD's), some form of setting up the calibration before you mess up a DVD-r?

U get a cheap cardboard disc to fart around with, but pretty much trial and error depending on ur disc.
I use the epson prgram that came with it although others prefer paint shop or whatever.

there is a thread on what a few other users use for their inner and outer diamater settings. JohnnyCnote started it and its about 4-6 pages long, I foget. but look there and see what others have to say, its on the first page.

  28. I never had to adjust the printer position settings on mine, printed perfectly first time, made a slight adjustment to the inner and outer diameter settings for the ritek g04's to get maximum coverage. I use 42mm inner and 118mm outer.

    Hello All!

My R200 arrived today (I'm at work, cant wait to check it out!) I got from Staples with a $15 off $100 coupon (added a .37 Pink Erazor..and they shipped it first in a huge box! LOL!) . You can find the coupon codes at ww.fatwallet.com just search in the hotdeal forums for "staples coupons" This priter will replace my finally dead Epson 740 I bought in '99!!!!

I also just ordered a NEC2500 8x burner. (and a Lite-On 16x Player to replace my almost dead 12x EPO) This is my first DVD burner, I am curious on media.

Do we have a list of prefered:

Printable Media? (both CDR & DVD+/-R)

Printer Settings? (to use on the above media)

I see little bits of info throughout this growing thread...it would be useful to have it all in one place. (Forum Sticky?) I think the obvious popularity of this printer warrants it.

    Thanks!
    JET

  30. For my inserts I set it to Photo Paper, Photo Quality, turn off Edge Smoothing and High Speed, and set Brightness to -10. I'm printing on Multiflip inserts you can get a Rima.com for I believe $12 per 100 pack. Excellent results.

For CD/DVD I use the same settings but leave brightness at 0 and use the dark level in the epson print software instead, setting it at -1 or -2 max.
