Wait 'til your DVD's arrive, and prepare to be disappointed! Those Memorex CDR's print great compared to the brands of DVD I have tried, don't know why there is such a difference, but there is. Most likely you will want to use a -1 or -2 setting for most DVD's, Ritek being an exception as they seem to take a lot of ink too. Just for fun, run one of your CDR's through the printer twice or more, keep printing until the disk actually comes out wet (should be about 3 times), that's how much I have been able to get from those CD's. Then after it drys for a day or so, run it under the faucet, see how much ink remains, even after rubbing it while in the water.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

  2. I'll probably be getting either Ritek or Taiyo Yuden DVD+Rs so hopefully they'll work alright. anyone used the TY discs to see how they work? Doesn't look like Rima has a sample pack of them.

  3. Costco has some epson Glossy photo paper that I use and it works perfectly for the dvd insert. It's not their premium glossy just the plain glossy heavy photo paper
RE this paper beware that the prints are WAVY. seems the paper is thick (9.4mils) but not very dense. by wavy i mean the prints are basically wrinkled versus the stiff prints that are produced by the Premium Glossy Paper. i use an Epson 870 printer set to print on the Glossy Papar (not Premium). i guess i will use my remaining inventory for drafts.

    Hello,
I posted the question in the media forum, "has anybody used the Taiyo Yuden Silver Inkjet Printable cd-r's with the R200"?
I thought I would ask in this forum since there seems to be some discusion on the quality of printable media.
Also, does anybody have any knoledge of the silver inkjet printables with any printer.
    Thanks

  8. Got my R200 yesterday, have ordered some printable Ritek G04's but will not get them for a day or 2 to test. I did try printing on a satin face ritek just to satisfy my curiosity does not work the ink just sits in little droplets on the surface and does not dry.

I just wish Ritek would produce some 8x full face printable DVD-R, then I would be happy, even 4x full face would be good.

That pic really does suck. My scanner is like 4 years old and probably still has smegma on it from when I was scanning my wee wee to send to my former boss.
    But I digress.
The disc really does look sweet. As far as the setting go, I used -1 on light and best photo..I think. I set to reg photo to see how it would look and to save on ink, but I cant figure out yet if I got it dont right. The reg setting shows photo, but advanced shows best photo.... So I dunno. It takes me time to sort all this crap out in my old brain.
I may take a snap shot of some discs, maybe it will show up better.

For anyone in the UK the R200 is Ł89.98 inc VAT from SVP.
Virtually the same as CCL but SVP been doing Ł0.01 delivery charge for orders over Ł30 lately, and you're not paying anymore when you buy media at the same time.

Very tempting if only for the CD printing ability; I wonder how well it will perform against my HP 970cxi for photo prints
I supose I could use one for photo's and one for disks

    Will Hay,

I bought the Epson R200 specifically for DVD printing, but it has replaced my HP OfficeJet G85 for Photo prints as well (same print engine as the 970cxi).

The quality of the Photo prints from the R200 is outstanding. It is faster and quieter than the HP and can do borderless. I still use the OfficeJet for regular prints but Photos have moved to the R200 in addition to the CD/DVD printing duties.

  22. Will I have a 980cxi and a 990cxi, and I would use the epson for photoprints over these 2 printers without hesitation. And as tedhowe mentioned the epson will print all the way to the edge of the paper (borderless prints) which is a pretty neat feature.

    Thanks guys.
Ted, any reason you don't use the R200 for general use, or are you simply keeping it for the important prints and letting the HP do all the donkey work?

    I love those disks.
I've never had success like I have with those, I've never lost one (that wasn't in some way my fault).
Even though I don't have a DVD printer I love the blank white disks.
I have around 100 left, and plan to buy the R200 when SVP receive stock.

I've just noticed this printer has six cartridges, did you/do you buy the generic ones or stick with the official Epson ones?
I once bought a couple of refilled ones from SVP for my HP970cxi and they were shite, I said I'd never do it again.

  26. I got a bunch of generics from Rima when I got the printer. I haven't used the yet though. The Epson carts are insanely expensive. It won't be long before I have to switch out my black and then we'll see how good the ink is.

  27. Still on the original cartridges, but when it comes to getting new ones I will go with Epson.

    Will,

There are several reasons that I use the HP still:

    1. The HP is a multifunction that is also a scanner and fax. Since it is still there on my desk anyway, I decided to share the load.

    2. The HP has a duplexer

    3. At this point in the 930/950/970/G85/G95 print engine's life cycle, even the HP original carts are reasonably expensive on a per-page basis. Much better than the newer Epson.

    4. I have read that the Epson uses "color mixing" of some sort in additon to black even for black text on a mixed-color page (i.e. web page prints). Meaning it uses up color even when doing regular prints. If this is true, I really would rather stay with the HP for general purpose printing.

    5. With the two printers there, I can keep separate stock in the printers. I now leave letter size paper in the HP. DVD/CD case inserts or photo paper in the Epson's input tray and then just flip down the CD tray when I want to print on a disc. This reduces the number of time I or my wife forget to check the paper in the printer and waste expensive stock.

I'm, waiting for someone to use generic ink on this puppy. Yea, I'm waiting on a guinni pig

Ive printed about 100 dvd's so far, full coverage and half were in color and the other half black and white. Level shows just over half left in all cartridges, except blue is a tad lower but not by much.

Anyone that has tried any please post. I really dont wanna go the route of re-filling as it looks like a hassel.
