  1. I'm trying to convert my vcd MPEG1 to dvd MPEG2 format to MPEG 2. That’s all I want! I searched all the forums and downloaded all the programs needed but I still cant figure it out with all the techinical mumbo. Please someone give me an idoit-proof 1,2,3 step guide to converting these files. I orginally had avi files that I converted to mpeg1 with TMPGenc, but now I want to convert these files to dvd to burn to dvd-r. From what I picked up from the guides I dont need to re-encode to files and I just needed the program called "dvd ptach". Well I downloaded the program but I don't know how to adjust the settings to convert to mpeg2. Or maybe I got this all wrong and I need a different program altogether.

I tried the dvdptach and tried experimenting with the different sizes and settings however nothing came out right. Im currently using TMPGEnc DVD author and when I inserted the files the thumbnail screen would display the wrong demensions (e.g. the video was compressed meaning the the video would be on the top half and the bottom half would be blank?) Please help a hopeless newbie....

  2. If your MPEG1 video files meets these requirements you won't need to reencode them to MPEG2 to put them onto a DVD.

    Video size NTSC 352x240 / PAL 352x288
    Aspect ratio 4:3
    Video bitrate Max 1.8Mbps

If the audio is not 48k then author will convert it for you.

Have you tried to author those original VCD MPEG1 files?

    Good luck.
