Hello. I have been using VirtualDub and TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 to convert AVIs to MPG then using Nero to make a SVCD on a CD-R. I have problems with the search function on most SVCD's I make. You just cannot use it. You hit fastforward and it never moves, it just stays stuck in place or maybe even goes back a few seconds. Very annoying that you cannot move to the part of the movie you want to see and sit through the same thing all the time. Is this something I can control and what causes it? The original file or how I am burning it?

    Thank you.

That was a problem on old versions of Nero. Nero 4 would not FF and Rewind. What version of Nero are you using?

I am using version 6. I also get some "popping" like noises in the movies, could it be related?

Does running other programs while tmpeng is working affect it?

Don't know enough about the original problem to help you fix it, but as a general rule you should leave the machine alone during rendering and, if you can, while burning. Even fast machines can use the overhead, and it is especially helpful if Windoze isn't reading and writing the swap file every few seconds while you surf.

As always, defrag, shut down any programs you don't need, and use a program like EndItAll to stop any other background programs you don't absolutely need. I found that disconnecting from the net and shutting down anti-virus helped a great deal. Good luck.

Try converting the avi directly with TMPEG. If the avi uses mp3 or ac3 audio you will need to save it as a wav with Virtualdub TMPEG will open the avi directly on the video input line, then open the wav in the audio line. Let TMPEG encode to SVCD and burn with Nero.

That is excatly what I am doing. I am always using VirtualDub to extract the audio wav and then using it with the avi in TMPGEN. Are you saying I should do it without using Virtualdub and have TMPGEN do everything? The movies come out pretty good most of the time, but the scanning function does not work. Could it be something with the original avi file?

I had exactly this problem with the unable to fast forward etc.. (except for the sound problem) around 6 - 8 months ago. To fix the problem, when burning the SVCD, I replaced the default scandata.dat file (found in the EXT folder on the SVCD) with a new scandata.dat file (I cannot remember where I found it). This seemed to do the trick for me.

That fixed it? So you replaced this file once before the burn (I use Nero) or do you replace it for each time you burn one? Either way how did you figure it out and could you send me your file for me to try?
I would very much appreciate it. Let me know.
