    during playback of most mpeg-1 videos the shown video length is not the same as the actual length. videos having been over an hour in length are now some 5 or 6 minutes.
    also, the video freezes frequently and continues to play when the timeline is already at the end. audio is fine though.

    any suggestions? I didn't tamper with any codecs....I think

    Did you check for bad frames, this can sometimes cause the dvd to stutter, the counter moves but the menu does not.

    I used to get this problem all the time on my sony dvd
