Both of these burners should be burning at 4x. I'm using Imation 4x media, though I've tried other 4x media as well. In CopytoDVD it always sets it to 2.0x mode. In Nero it says it's burning 4x, but it's not!
It takes me 17 minutes to burn a 3 gig dvd, not even a full one.
NEC 1100a Firmware 1.A0
IOMEGA DVDRW4216 Firmware 1.21
I'm running XP, 2.4g, 512 ram.
Each drive is on it's own IDE channel. In device manager for one IDE channel it lists current transfer at UDMA 4, the other at UDMA 5. I've just restored a clean ghost image.
Any ideas here?

Has this only just started happening ?
I would say that it is your media, try using something like Ritek G04's -
It's always been like this, using various media.
One more thing I noticed, In Nero the Used Read Buffer always hovers around 100%.
In the window below on for buffer level it fluctuates a great deal. Not sure if this info helps. BTW, using copy to dvd it defaults to 2.0x all the time, even when using 4x media....
