Ok, I just successfully backed up a dvd to a dvdr using dvd2svcd via cce and scenarist...well ALMOST successfully! I got squished bars at the top and bottom...I assume I just clicked the wrong aspect ratio under the dvdrip tab in dvd2svcd (anamorphic is what I used...should I have used 4:3 as I dont have a widescreen tv? The movie I tried is a widescreen movie but it made it squashed...)
HOWEVER...I only got the main movie. I want to see if I can get the ENTIRE disc. Anyone have a guide? I followed mr bass's guide last time.

To get the entrie disc you cannot use DVD2SVCD, you need to use the Big3 for that. There is a guide over at doom9.org for it.
Most of the guides for DVD2SVCD are outdated because the new versions offically support DVD output now. Its pretty striaght forward, I however found it best to change my max bitrate to 7000 from 9000 to sometimes avoid slight problems. Then changed the other stat to like 6000.
As far as squised I'm not sure what to say, its possible you needed 16:9 borders added instead of anamorphic, what ratio is the actual movie? Usually DVD2SVCD does a good job of selecting that itself, but not everytime. -
Just use 16:9(add borders, encode as 4:3),dont use anamorphic and it will be ok.Some dvds i had to set to 4:3(do not add borders, encode as 4:3) even with the borders.

If the guides are getting dated can we get someone who KNOWS what they are doing to write a new one? Although it seems that mr bass's guide was pretty straight forward to me.
I'm going to try a different movie tonite with basically the same settings but I will try using 16:9(add borders encode as 4:3) (thanks johns0).
I will lower the bitrate a bit (seems how it really needn't be 9000 max anyhow!).Boy do I love my avatar! -
Big3 refers to DoITforYou, DoCCE4U and Reauthorist. a process of free programs which uses CCE and Scenarist as well as IfoUpdate. Goto the doom9 guide section and look it up, it is NOT an automated process but works very well. Though it still has a few bugs. It is the only even partly automated way to CCE the entire disc back together.

why are you going to all that trouble of backing up dvds useing that method? when there are much easier and qucker ways with the same result.

OK, i set up a movie to work overnight but scenarist crashed. Am I able to just open scenarist on it's own and multiplex the files? (if i am correct, this is what scenarist is for) I can't remember if scenarist is the final step or not...does pulldown come after this? can someone help me out real quick here?Boy do I love my avatar! -
UPDATE...I tried scenarist on its own and multiplexed and it crashed at 50%...why does it keep crashing?
Another update...it seems that when it crashes the daikanmpegdecoder is causing it...Also, when I start up the program and find my scenarist project a warning comes up in the bottom left corner saying that i dont have either the quadrant or sigma design mpeg decoder...is this part of the problem?Boy do I love my avatar! -
That shouldn't be it... look on the tabs on the bottom, somewhere on one it should say what the error is. Without knowing its hard to know whats causing it.

Well SUCCESS...Although I think that trying to include the subtitles is what caused Scenarist to crash. I did the movie this time without the subs and the movie works and looks great...
However... The final movie created by scenarist is only 3.3 gigs...The movie I used as a test subject was 5.5 gigs. Why didnt it fill in the remaining 1 gig of dvd space?Boy do I love my avatar!
