  1. the project -

Converting home videos to dvd. Adding music backgrounds to the existing audio. I want to lower the volume of the music files Ive imported as a second audio stream, and I also want want to fade them in and out of certain sections of the video.

Is it possible to do this without exporting the audio to a thirdparty audio editor like Cooledit, as I really dont want to do this...also, I think I read somewhere that dvd arch. wont import multiple audio tracks...is this correct...if so, is dvdlabs a good choice for this?

    thanks inadvance

most anything CoolEdit will do, Vegas will do - it started out as a multitrack audio editor, and got video functions later.

You should be able to show a volume envelope on the audio track, add points to it and drag the volume up or down as necessary.

as for authoring with 2 audio streams, I haven't looked at the new DVD Lab Pro, unless they've added that recently, DVD Lab doesn't support multiple audio streams directly - you have to do some horking with IFO Edit.

  3. You don't have to export anything!

Controlling volume in multiple audios in vegas is more then easy! Just Insert Volume Envelopes into the respective audio tracks, then by double-clicking on the line which will now run through the center of your audio track (after envelope inserted) will yield you a node/s which can then be manipulated by dragging them up or down, etc.

For example, if you have a loud bang in the audio track you want to lessen or lower, on the envelope line double-click left of the audio spike, double-click right of the spike (nodes are now to right and left of the spike) then double-click in the middle of the two nodes (a new node in the middle) and drag that middle node down. Within moments all will become self-evident.

That said, I would strongly recommend you take the time and read the manual, or download the manual .pdf files from the Sony website, as your question is very basic to say the least.

If you are really serious about learning Vegas, then STUDY this forum:

  4. Thanks for that....will have another look today....as for the manual stuff....I have been reading the pdf, but as usual, when I read something on a screen, I usually miss the one point I really want an answer for, and cant come to grips with printing out the 150 odd pages.

    Cheers though

About your 2 audio tracks in DVD Architect, you do not actually need that capability if I assume correctly. You will mix 2 audio tracks (one from video, one your background music) in Vegas, but after your render as MPEG2 for your DVD, your 2 audio streams will be merged into one track. You only get 2 audio tracks if you actually generate 2 separate audio streams that you import individually into your authoring software. In that case, you would not get them to play at once (your background music would be on one track, and the audio from your home movie on the other). You could only select them separately, like 2 language tracks on a commercial DVD.

  7. Lechtin....you are spot on. Unfortunately discovered this a couple of days ago when I wanted to do some more editing and had deleted the project file....Only had the file with both audio tracks mixed...(wanted to change one of the songs...).

SO had the joy of doing it again

    Thanks though
