Diff. Brand DVD-R at diff. speeds

are there certain brands of DVD+R that go w/ certian brands of DVD burners? I have a HP 300i burner and used Memorex DVD+R and TDK DVD+R to burn. Both say max speed is 4x. The Memorex burns at 4x but the TDK only burns at 2.4x when burning movies.

I don't know this burner, but check if there are any firmware upgrades for it.

I have the same problem with my sony, certain cheaper brands do not record at 4x even though they are 4x certified.

Probably the burner not liking the media.

Do you have the latest firware ?.

The firmware contains the media id codes and sets the speed accordingly. Pioneer a few back drop support of Ritek media in a firmware update, pissing off alot of people, then finally re-adding it but only at 1x in a second update.

So check for updates on your firmware.

wuld i check for the latest firmare at the HP website or is there another way of checking off your computer?
