  1. OK - total newbie time. I downloaded ffmpegX 0.0.9a and installed the binaries according to the instructions - I hope. What I would like to do is convert a .wmv file to anything else that quicktime could read. I did some forum searching and found posts saying that if mplayer could play the .wmv then ffmpegX could encode it as .avi...This is where I get stuck. Mplayer plays the file with audio, but getting usable results out of ffmpegX is another story.

It seems that no matter what option I choose in the video tab of ffmpegX, I either get processing for a split second and no resulting file or a failure message.

I need help, and I hope i'm in the right place. Thanks in advance!

  2. Select DivX preset, hit encode and post the process output (blue "i" icon).

  3. The following is what was in the top text bar when I clicked the 'i':

    printf "Encoding started on " && date && /usr/bin/mencoder /Volumes/Big\ Mac/Shared/CrystalMethod\ -\ borntoslow\ 1.wmv -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=128:vol=0 -aid 0 -ovc lavc -sws 0 -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=18975:keyint=240:vqmin=2:vqm ax=9 -ofps 1000.000 -vop scale=352:240 -o /Users/ericreinhard/Movies/test.avi && printf "Encoding completed on " && date && printf "\a"

This was one of the split second process times.

  4. Not the top bar, but the main window area. That's where the process output and error messages are printed.

  5. Ok here is what was in the main window:

Encoding started on Tue Jan 27 22:05:47 PST 2004

The ffmpegX progress says 'finished' and it made the ding sound, but there is no resulting file anywhere.

  6. Try to open a Terminal window (open Applications/Utilities/Terminal) and copy/paste the command line you wrote above. Which result do you obtain?

  7. After copying and pasting I get the following in Terminal:

Encoding started on Wed Jan 28 22:16:27 PST 2004
dyld: /usr/bin/mencoder can't open library: /usr/local/lib/libvorbis.0.dylib (No such file or directory, errno = 2)
    Trace/BPT trap

    Any ideas?

  8. Probably you didn't complete the 3 installation steps.

  9. I'll try re-installing the whole thing and post the results.

  10. I just completely reinstalled the whole ffmpegx setup, tried the conversion again and got the same results - a split-second process, with no resulting file...

Do you still get this error? if yes, step 2 of the installation process was probably not successful.

  12. Step 2 was the problem! Thanks. The good news is that it gives me video, but the bad news is there is no audio on the file. I tried Divx Doctor, but there is no audio after that either.
