Don't tell me you have missed the fiercy battles for the domination of Tmpgenc vs CCE vs Mainconcept vs Canopus Procoder vs encoding with MyDVD?

If you want max speed use Mainconcept.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

1 minute avi clip, no resizing

    tmpgenc, default vcd settings
    51 seconds

mainconcept mpeg encoder, default vcd settings
    38 seconds

and the winner is Mainconcept but it isn't that much faster and tmpgenc is freeeeee. (We are now talking VCD, MPEG1 and NOT MPEG2)

  6. can you tell me what is the fastest method to convert a DVD movie to an MPEG forma for VCD

using DVD to VCD or using DVD to some other format and then to VCD

please also tell which software to use
    TMPGEnc takes too much time

Now, that's a different issue altogether.

Probably, using a "DVD2VCD" type of program would be the fastest way. I know there are quite a few of those around but unfortunatelly never tried any of these.

On the other hand, a fullproof (but more complicated and slower) way could be the following:

Extract the movie into a single VOB file, then use VirtualDUB MPEG to convert to AVI, while at the same time burn subtitles - if you want - over the movie. Then use this AVI with Nero, creating a VCD project.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

    A faster computer!

TMPGenc isn't the fastest, but the output is nice and I like it best.
    "Terminated!" :firing:
