  1. I check up on it every once in a while. Doesn't seem to be updated very much (at all?). I wonder what the feasibility of anyone looking at the code and figuring out a way to make it faster (my main complaint). It is an awesome multiplexing tool as well. But, how does it get away with encoding MPEG2 as freeware? I thought you had to pay some licensing fee to do that?

Went on to become Main Concept encoder. YMpeg uses some ( ) of the source code.

TMPGenc beta 12 had free MPEG2 encoding as well.

Ympeg? I havn't seen that until now. What is it, an encoder of some kind or capture codec like picvideo?

    fmctm1sw,

What are your intensions w/ bbmpeg ??

To code some front-end to it, or just use it as is ?

I coded a front-end to it some time ago, but I haven't updated it (as I had
planned) too many things going on at once. I was meaning to code some
thing a little smaller w/ D'nD for ease of use though - if time ever allows.

if someone is looking for a free mpeg encoder, you should look into ffmpeg. ffmpeg is widely known for its audio encoding ability, but it also can encode to mpeg1/mpeg2.

    Documentation can be found here:

there are actually several ways to compile ffmpeg for win32. Baldrick is kind enough to provide a cygwin build in his ffmpeggui that he wrote.

ffmpeg can also be compiled with msys and mingw. (type ./configure then type make)

Correction: Baldrick's isn't compiled with cygwin, but im fairly sure it could be done if needed.

    my appoligies guys.

    I forgot about Baldrick's ffmpegGUI port - - I ment, to say,
    "besides" Baldrick's ffmpegGUI port hehe..

From what I read, ffmpeg does audio processes. I think I read, after searching
through the internet highway that ffmpeg also encodes to mpeg-1
and mpeg-2. I was mainly seeking these processes.. in my quest to finally
come up w/ an MPEG-2 cutter/joinger app to code (even if that ment to code
    a front-end)

In my search, I found a port, "mpgtx"

I found mpgtx to be pretty good (for the limited amount of time I have
spent w/ it (yesterday) I am planning on posting something (if worth while)
soon, here on vcdhelp. Something I've ben looking forward to doing for a
very long time :P All I need is a good name

At this time, I'm coding a Delphi front-end to this port - my head hurts from
    all this fun

Thanks guys for your help and all,

Nothing really. I'm just always on the lookout for free software. If I had time to do anything programming, I'd really enjoy it.
