I got lite-on 411s 3 days ago. it worked fine. But today i changed my firmware to latest one in lite-on homepage. After changing firmware, my drive cant read or write DVD disks. It can copy and reads normal cds. i got this from circuit city. Will circuitcity take this drive? i have recept, box, and everything except for barcode(sent for rebate) or do i have to rma this drive?

#1: dont buy lite-on, its the absolute cheapest and ive had nothing but bad experiance from them.
#2: dont buy from circuit city, theyre an overpriced, menial retail outlet that know less then nothing about hardware. Their returns and exchange department didnt even know about APEX, theyre just that stupid. Just like best buy and all those other dipsh*ts out there. One time I tried to do an even exchange for a dvd that wouldnt read half-way through and they basically called me a thief/con because i didnt have my reciept. How pathetic do you have to be to try to just Exhange a dvd and they require a fu*king reciept? The dvd was practically brand new, no scratches or anything, yet they refused to budge. I vowed to never shop there again and pointed the finger at them for the blame of piracy and the fact that these stores have inhumane inconsiderate return and exchange policies.
Try to return it, and explain the barcode was mailed in. Thats the least you can do, all they can say is yes or no. If you're within your 14 day return period (why its 14 days is Beyond me) then they should. If they wont take it (sounds to me they'll make an excuse about the rebate that you cant return it..), If you had your original unmailed barcode and all that, then Id say definetely return it, get your money back, and spend an extra 30 or 40 bucks for something that wont fart in 2 months. Otherwise, then bite the bullet, buy a new drive (i recommend a good firewire/scsi one) that costs more then 130.00. In the world of cheap shoddy electronics, you get what you pay for. -
@dorky
My experience with your situation is that they probably won't take it back because you already mailed in the UPC symbol. Don't worry about them knowing if you upgraded the firmware, NO ONE and I mean NO ONE has or EVER will in the history of the world @CircuitCity will know how to check for something like that like Moloko_Plus said they are just that STUPID.

and too top it all of they are some of the most RACIST F*U(KS around, always feel like they gotta follow young people around. One time a CC employee followed me around close enough so that I turned and clocked him one with some brass knucks I had in my pocket, kid's jaw was wired shut
. They have a high dropout rate too, I mean how stupid do you have to be to get fired from CC; there's always new employess each month at my local CC.

Do you think it is possible that you send out a "watch this guy" vibe that you don't even know about? After all you you just happen to have brass knuckles in your pocket and feel quite proud of punching someone. -
Actually thats a good reason not to shop at a store, for having someone follow you practically digging in your ass. 99% of the time its some lifeless moron following you around who pretends its his money in the first place that theyre stealing from. Whether or not someone shoplifts isnt going to affect him $6.50 per hour rate of pay. What do they care who steals from the place they work at? The store isnt exactly paying them much anyway, and overpricing all their wares to 200% markup..Are we really supposed to feel bad for these retail companies?
Id personally love nothing more then to punch someone following me without a legit reason. And just saying "well he LOOKS like a shoplifter" doesn't cut it with me, man. Its not that kids money, he still makes $6.50 rearranging music cds and asking customers "Hi can I help you" repeatedly.
Also, since they Are an electronics you would think they would invest in advanced store cameras and the such so they dont have to get their eggheaded underpaid loser employees to follow someone around. If someone followed me around Id complain to the manager, then never shop there again. I would feel discriminated because if it really was "equal" they would put 1 employee to follow every single customer in the store.
I have no sympathy whatsoever for retail stores, and even Less sympathy for singling people out as shoplifters. Its not like they have "SHOPLIFTER" tattooed on their forehead.
Stores need to invest in surveillance equipment and thats the bottom line. Obviously, if someone follows someone around, theyre not going to steal, will either try back later, and has in fact wasted the stores money for paying that employee an hourly wage to follow the suspect around. He can just come back later if he really wanted to steal. If he Wasnt planning to steal, its a loss to the company Again because, like this poster here, he felt unfairly treated and the company may lose his business in the future.
Say for example...some 15 year old lifts the new dvd for...(whats just out?), well lets say the scooby doo movie. Now that dvd costs somewhere between 13 and 20 dollars, right? If that kid steals it, thats only about a 2.00 loss to the company since they sure as hell didnt pay anywhere NEAR the 13-20 dollars. That store has already sold several hundred as it is. Im not saying stealing is right, its Very wrong to take something that isnt yours. But to simply sit there and say these inhumane retail companies should be able to do whatever they want..should probably take a step back and look at the big picture.
presto are you the same type who also says downloading music is just the same as retail theft? (think carefully..something is being stolen..you are getting some sort of product without paying..yet is the company REALLY at loss?) Kinda the same principle with retail theft, its a loss but its a VERY VERY VERY small and over-exaggerated loss. -

I think there are racists who target minorities and watch them closely. I also think there are people who who attribute any bad behaviour aimed at them as racist.
I read a report on how to spot a shoplifter. The main point it made is that people who are shopping...shop. Shoplifters tend to wander around and pay to much attention to where the emplyees are. So, if you are a bit paranoid and concerned about wether or not you are being watched you start to look like someone who should be watched.
