Why do I get this dialog appear everytime I try to run MPC v98me6475 under W98SE?

  2. Few questions first:

    1. Did you make sure to download the correct version for Win98-Me (mpc98me6475.zip)?

There is another version for Win2k-XP (mpc2kxp6475.zip), that uses unicode - something that Win98-Me doesn't understand.

    2. Did the previous version work OK? - MPC 6.4.7.4 / MPC 6.4.7.3

    3. Does Windows Media Player work OK? (Media Player Classic is uses a lot of resources that are already on your system)

Yes absolutely. My computer - the one I'm typing this on - is W2K, so I'm aware that there are different versions of MPC for the two OS streams. MPC works very well here on W2K so I just wanted to do the same thing for my other W98SE machine. I definitely have the 98/ME version installed on the W98 machine.

I don't know. I haven't tried any earlier versions on the W98SE machine. I only got around to trying to do this for my other computer when v6.4.7.5 came out.

Yes. The standard WMP v6.4 is working just fine.

Problem now solved. An upgrade of DirectX to version 8.1 (up from 6.1) did the trick. All now working fine.
