  1. Last night while doing my usual meandering around the internet, I heard one of my fans dramatically increase in speed ! I went to task manager and found my CPU usage was at 100%, I closed all running programmes but it was still at 100%.

So I shut my PC down and rebooted, and all was fine untill I opened "My Music" folder within "My Documents" and the CPU usage shot up again to 100%.

After much fiddling about this only seems to happen when I open My Music. I've done all the usual things, virus scan, adaware scan, defrag etc but it is still happening.

First thought was the CPU was going belly up, but I did some authoring on some VHS I'd captured, which I know ups my CPU usage. It ran at 95% + while I was authoring, then when I'd finished, it was back to normal.

I opened loads of folders, programs etc., played a DVD all at the same time, no problem, but the moment I opened My Music, wham 100% ! Also my PF in task manager went over 800MB.

I have a horrible feeling this could be bad news.

    Any ideas

  2. Its a known bug in WinXP. Happened after one of MS's famous security features. Selecting cerian file types in Explorer cause CPU useage to go to 100% (and often stay there till the next reboot).

Don't know if there is a fix available for it yet though.
