Here's what my problem is:
I have been using Final Cut Pro 1.2 on my G3 iMac running OS9.2 to record an old video tape of mine. I used my Sony DCR-TRV33E digital camcorder as a DV adapter to record into FCP via an iLink (ie firewire) lead. I'm pretty sure that my log & capture settings were correct, as I believe the audio should automatically set to 48KHz when the iLink lead connects, but anyway, it seemed to record fine.
However, although the resulting QT file, when viewed in Quicktime, runs fine from start to finish, it is a different story when I view the recording in FCP, where the audio seems to get more and more out of sync as it plays.
What have I done wrong? I want eventually to create a DVD, either by using Bitvice or taking the files into work to my G4 to encode, but I can't do that until I'm sure I've got this bit right.... Have I missed something basic here?

I had similar problem converting mpeg4 movie into DVD with ffmpegX. Problem was related to the framerate settings for the NTSC movies. There's an option "Set 3:2" in the Options tab, which means (as far as I could get this) that the original framerate of a movie is 24 fps, but the program adds a command for dvd-player to repeat some frames (or actually fields) to make 30 fps. It affects only video, so the audio goes out of sync.
I'm not sure that I could get it absolutely right, but there must be some info on this matter around the forum.
So (if your movie is NTSC) I'd advise to search some NTSC framerate options in FCP, maybe there are some... Unfortunately I'not very familiar with FCP(
