  2. Hi and welcome to the forum

That is going to depend on what type of audio sync issue it is. Like is the audio outosync by a certain amount during the entire length of the video, or is it progressive sync where it may be ok at the start and by the end of the file it's out?

Heres a good post to read that will help ya too. https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=166660

  3. It's a progressive audio sync problem, the start is nice but in the end the audio is 5sec late on the video!

  4. Hi

I was hoping you were going to say constant offset sync. haha.

I hope you read the link I provided above. It contains good information on what can cause this problem.

Here is a guide you should read.

If you still need help after that I'll try. ok

    Good luck.

  5. It's weird, when capturing in mpeg2 the video will get crazy 90% of the time with out of sync and frames jumping. But when capturing in wmv with windows movie creator 2 about 90% of the movies are perfect, the reconversion from wmv to mpeg2 is too slow (3hours for 1h15 of movie) Why Mpeg2 capturing is such instable?

  6. Not to me either. I don't use WMV but I do know it's more CPU intensive than MPEG and it's up there just about like DivX capture for CPU load.

I would say you've got a driver conflict. I had a VIA chipset one time and was trying to get that machine to capture video with an ATI AIW card. I had to pick and choose between drivers until I finally came up on combination that would work together. My advice is to watch your CPU load and learn what its doing with different cap settings. Update system and video and cap drivers (1 at a time) until your CPU loads come down. You'll know when that happens.

IF that's not it then all else I can think of is a bottle neck somewhere on the drive pipeline. Either the bus or the drive that's holding back the flow. Mpeg has more bitrate than wmv so maybe your real problem is on the bus, again either a driver issue or a drive.

    Good luck
    Hope I helped somehow.

  7. Which drivers are you talking about? I have the last detonator for my gforce 4200 ti vivo,I have to see also the audio card driver?
It's surelly something in the software because my old xp was capturing in mpeg2 better than now

  8. Well I mean like anything your motherboard or computer manufacture offers as updated drivers. BIOS, IDE, Raid, USB, etc. My motherboard is a Gigabyte with an Intel chipset so I go to the Gigabyte website and look for update drivers for my board. I try to keep those up to date and haven't had any negetive results by doing so.

Sound card. I have a Creative card so I look on the Creative site. Mine has an easy online update utility that makes this easy to do. So far so good from Creative.

Video/Capture card. Mine is an ATI so I go to their website and look around. But I don't always have good luck with ATI updates. lol

Modem drivers. Updated drivers for a modem can sometimes give you a better connection and faster throughput. Usually a good idea to update. This won't help your captures though.

Windows Updates. This is a good idea I fully recommend. Even if the download is going to take some time. Keep Windows up to date is always safer than not.

Program Updates. Some programs offers updates and it's usually a good idea to check for them. So far no negetive results except again, with ATI.

It takes some time to do all this and you should understand too that you should be testing your captures along the way. I've found I could not use all the updated drivers expecially ones from ATI. Most all the other updates gave a positive end result.

Also, BIOS setup configuration. Some systems and devices (like capture cards) can be hindered by incorrect bios settings. ATI has a list of recommended bios settings and I try to follow them. Some people never enter their BIOS setup utility then wonder why they have trouble....

    Good luck.
    Hope this helps.

When you capture directly to MPEG-2, is the encoding being done by hardware (on the card) or software (on your computer's CPU)?

If it's being done on the card (hardware MPEG-2 encoding) you shouldn't have any dropped frames. If it's being done by the CPU via software encoding, you're more likely to have dropped frames.
