  1. hi, i have a couple of questions regarding backing up friends DVDs.

they are double sided DVDs, and contain approx 3.5 gigs on each side.

firstly i was a little confused as to why they were dual sided, why not just burn them onto 1 9 gig disc??? is it something to do with the max play time on the disc? each disc has 8 episodes on it (22 mins each)

also, the bit rate is 7.5 MPS- isnt dvd supposed to be 9MBPS???

i what to back up 1 DVD onto a DVDr- so i must therefore half the bit rate of each film (as each DVD is double sided!)

what is the best method to do this? i would like to keep the menus, but get rid of the special features! can i edit the menu so there is a link to "Menu 2" which will contain short cuts to the other 4 movies (that way i get to keep their menues!)

    any help would be appreciated!!!

  3. I don't know. There's a lot of grey area. What's the difference in that and saying "I backed up a VHS tape for some guy I never met and charge him $20." There's a bunch of folks doing that. But it's the same thing, is it not? You are backing up copyrighted material for someone else. I don't know. This is a frustrating area for me to understand.

  7. If it's double sided and contains only 3.5 gigs on each side, just dvddecrypter it onto the hard drive for each side, then burn each side to a separate dvd. So you'd have Friends Disc 1a, friends disc 1b. You wouldn't lose any information - menus, etc, you can make a complete copy since each side would fit entirely on one disc (meaning 2 discs per 1 dvd)

  8. yeah, i know thats possible m8, but i was hoping i could put two discs onto one disc by reducing the quality by approx half! that way i still get to keep the menus. i would also have to add a small button on the menu which would take you to the seond menu linking to the other 4 episodes!

what would be the best way to do this??? thanks everyone!!!!
