I know these are different beasts. And to me it's sort of like buying cars. If it gets me where I need to go, then I don't care whether it's a Porsche or a Honda.

I'm currently using a Leadtek 2000xp dlx, but I have a chance to pick up a ADVC1394 for a great price.

    So should I?

My needs are to capture VHS and sat TV.

I am capping on Windows XP pro, ntfs files, no sp1, no critical updates. Clean install.

The Leadtek allows me to use Virtualvcr, so I can schedule recordings. But capping at the settings that I'd like to use, has caused my system to crash. (I'd like to use picvideo mjpeg at 20, 720x480, setting 20. But I'm only stable at setting 19 if I want to cap for 2-5 hours. Yes services are turned off, etc.)

So if I switch to an ADVC1394, can I schedule? More importantly does anyone think my system would be more stable? Do they both process the dv the same way - besides locking the audio to the video? If so then I doubt I'd be more stable.

Any other important things I haven't thought about?

Filling out your computer specs in your profile would perhaps be useful. Why can't you capture at setting of 20 with the picvideo codec? I can. Are you using a 486-DX50 or something? Just guessing.
