I used to have the same problem with my own router. It is a U.S. Robotics 8000A. The problem was related to a buggy firmware.

Look in the web page of your router for a new firmware. This may fix your probelm.

  3. That or call the cable company and tell your connection is "jacked up" they'll give you a new modem most likely or a new NIC card

This is the best advice, my friend was having exactly the same problem as you with Blue Yonder and his box was knackered.

Do they give free support? And, is it their cable modem or your own?

The next time you're dropped, try Start>Run>winipcfg. Click on more info or details, or whatever your sys has, on the dropdown where it lists ppp....,highlight your NIC and see what the DNS Server address is. Try opening an MSDOS window and type "ping 000.000.000.000", your numbers, and a space after ping. Hit enter and see if you get a reply. It should ping 4 times, you should send and receive 4 packets. You might need www. after the ping-space, I forget.

I had to do this once when mine was new, and the tech said it proved my connection was good and I had other problems. I did, haven't had any since.

It could be a bad modem or NIC, though, as said above. Just that if you have to miss work for a service call, and this would show another problem instead, is worth a try, just for elimination.

    Cheers'
