I purchased a Philips DVDR80 for Christmas and love it.
Thanks to the Clarifier I can achieve excellent results 99% of the time.
However, when copying a DVD to VHS I sometimes get very low volume on the VHS tape.
This can happen when copying an original or a copied DVD.
I copy DVD to VHS for my down syndrone nephew who can operate a VCR but struggles with DVD's.
Any help will be appreciated by us.
thanks,

They are connected using RCA jacks.
audio L out to audio L in
audio R out to audio R in
video out to video in
yellow = yellow
white = white
red = red
Any help is appreciated.
The sound is there but with the volume turned all the way up on the TV its still not at a comfortable level.
I did record these in Surround sound and was wondering if I should play them in mono when recording ?? Is this possible ??
Thanks, Clunker -
Clean all the jacks by inserting and re-inserting them. Connect via scart if possible. Your head is probably dirty. Clean it. Try same tape on different machine. When backing up increase volume by 100-200% (besweet).
ALso with TV volume turned all the way up, if you suddenly switch programs to broadcast TV ... Yikes!Corned beef is now made to a higher standard than at any time in history.

Low volume on a DVD is normal. The audio output level is set very low by comparison to other audio sources,audio Cd's,VHS tape would be examples. You would need a VCR that allows you to increase the audio input level or hook another devise,a cassettte recorder for example,between the DVD player and the recording VCR and use it's input level control to boost the low volume of the DVD.

Following up on Moonstomp's suggestions - some VCRs also have an "auto level" feature for recording. If you have one and it is disabled, enable it; if it's enabled, disable it and see if there's any improvement. Make sure you monitor the sound coming out of the VCR to check to make sure the levels problem isn't on the DVD end.
It is also possible that a copy protection scheme is interfering with the levels, although the probability is low. Try multiple short copies - if you get consistently low levels from the same disc while getting decent levels with other discs, that may isolate the problem.Don't go around saying the world owes you a living.
