  1. I have a Phillips 751 DVD standalone, which I would like to use to watch, a VCD. The VCD file is in .DAT format. Is there any software I can use to convert it to play on my DVD standalone. Or will Nero do this for me ?

  2. I also have a Philips 751, before I answer your Q, Do you know how to hack the region? let me know if you do (stevosos@ntlworld.com)

Copy the DAT file from the VCD to your harddisk and rename it to .mpg .mpeg and play it in Windows media player or right click on the DAT file holding down the left shift key, another option should appear 'open with' select this option and open with Windows media player.

let me know about the hack.....

  3. The DAT file is what you need to burn to watch the vcd on your player. Use VCDGear 2.0 to convert it to a mpeg. (VCDGear is in the tools section on this site) Load the mpeg into Nero and burn as a vcd. Check your mpeg ratio to see if it's 352x240 (NTSC-USA) or 352x288 (PAL-European). If the ratio is wrong for your region you will have to convert it to the correct ratio. (there are guides to do this with TMPGEnc on this site under the CONVERT section)
I have a Phillips dvd711 and use Nero with no problems. Good Luck,
