  1. hi,

i have a few movies that i want to encode and burn on disc. First couple wnt fine. But i have a couple that always produce the "cannot open file or unsupported" error message.

Used avicodec to ensure that i had the right codecs and it informed me that it was indeed supported.

Have tried to change the directshowfilter priority as per your problem page but it wont let do anything.

    Any ideas chaps?

It can be a lot of things, try use fx VirtualDub to extract the audio as wav, then frameserve, and use that as input for tmpgenc.
It is described in several guides on this page.

With which tool do you get the error? It sounds like a fairly common TMPGEnc error, so I'll point you at this:

    Hope that helps. Good luck...

  4. I agree with Chr0 if tmpgenc will not open it and vdub will, try frameserving to tmpgenc.

    Video : 1.66 GB, 2500 Kbps, 25.0 fps, 480*576 (16:9), MPG2 = MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD), Supported

Are you using the VirtualDub version that supports Mpeg2?
If you do, the video stream may be corrupt.

Neither VirtualDub nor TMPGEnc can read MPEG2. But there is a version of VirtualDub that's modified to do so, and there is a plugin for TMPGEnc that allows it to read MPEG2. If PowerDVD is installed, TMPGEnc can (at least could) use its mpeg2 decoder to open mpeg2 (no need for plugin).
