  1. I have a set of video files I wanted to put onto DVD.

    File setups are as follows.
    Video: MPEG1 352x240 (29.97), 575kbps (constant)
Audio: MPEG Layer II 48khz, stereo, 224kbps

Everything compiles without a hiccup. I, not wishing to waste a DVD-R, make an image file (using Nero 6 ISO/UDF setup) and then try to test it.
I get picture fine, but no audio whatsoever.
As a seperate test, I make the DVD as-is and test it with my set-top box. Same symptom: No audio, but video works.

Something else: when I use TMPGEnc (DVD author 1.5) to open up the created DVD file(s), I can then use the preview function and get sound out of it.

For the software DVD playback, I'm using "MSIDVD" (a version of WinDVD, IIRC) run though both Jetaudio Basic and Windows Media Player.

    DVD set-top is a Toshiba SD-1600.

Did a Linear PCM conversion of the audio. Still no luck.

However, PowerDVD plays both just fine... weird. Sigh... Maybe it'll work on someone else's DVD player.

  2. Extract the audio to a .wav file with VirtualDub or something similar prior to encoding. Seems as tho' TMPGEnc has lotsa problems with audio. Here's a tutorial:

  3. I've got the problems somewhat nailed down: the other DVDs I've made (on another program, DVD Architect) used AC3 for the sound.

I have a feeling that the SD 1600 won't read MPEG II audio OR PCM.

Mpeg2 audio is not in the DVD-NTSC standard, although many DVD players (not yours) will play it. LPCM should be OK but AC3 takes up less space.
