hi all,
after a few months of vcd/svcd trial and error(s), i've come to a point where i'm pretty happy with the quality of my digital material. i just complteed a dvd rip of the movie blow, and using the following settings in tmpeg, i am looking for any tweeks that can help me eliminate blocks in dark regions of the final svcd. my player is an apex ad-600a (max bit rate 2750 from this site). here's my settings:

stream : mpeg2
size : 480 x 480
aspect: 4:3 display
frame rate : 29.97 fps
rate : 2 pass vbr(min 600 max 2700 ave 1528)
vbv buffer : 112

profile & level : main & main
video : ntsc
encode : non-interlace
yuv : 4:2:0
dc compression : 10 bit

motion search : high

-------------------------------------

source : interlace
field order : bottom first
source aspect : vga 1:1

video arrange : keep aspect

noise reduction : still 100 range 1 time 0 (hq mode)

-------------------------------------

i gop : 1
p gop : 10
b gop : 1

detect scene change

--------------------------------------

use floating point dct

soften block noise : intra 30 non intra 30

--------------------------------------

audio 192 kbs

----------------------------

sytem : mpeg 2 svcd

please note that the dashes above signify the different settings tabs in tmpeg. any advice will be greatly appreciated! i'm sorry for the length of this post, but i wanted to show all the settings i'm using. again, my one concern is block noise in dark areas of the final svcd.

thanks in advance!!!!
