When I press the eject button on the console, it only opens about a quarter of the way and it closes automatically 2 seconds later. If I manage to open it up all the way and put the game in, when the system is trying to load it up, it sounds like its breaking down....please help me fix this.

    Thanks

    But the tray is empty...

  4. just a guess, but it sounds like the gears are no longer aligned. I had this happen to a cd-rw that I pushed the tray in (instead of using the button) and the tray started making noises and would eject right anymore.

Uh oh...sounds to me like a certain box needs to be opened up. If there are any more suggestions, please let me know.

  6. Well look on the bright side..........if you open that box up your warranty is voided......might as well throw a mod chip in there now.....hehe.

To play your "backed up" games of course.

I was thinking about that exact thing today. I've had the thing for a while now so the warranty no longer exists anyway. I'd get a modchip but I dont have the time to go out and buy one, learn how to install it, and so on. With 18 credit hours I rarely find time to even play.

I'd be cautious about opening it up personally. But hey, if you're comfortable with it...crack open that baby...if not take it to be repaired.

@ pyrate, I'm not comfortable with it, but it wont do me any good just lying there if its broken. I'd take it to be repaired but I heard they're really expensive.

BTW: I rented Prince of Persia and that's when I found out. Luckily blockbuster took it back and game me store credit(they were out of the the ps2 version).

Sorry to hear that bud. It really is a fun game though and I'm sure it's just as good on PS2 when you can get your hands on it.

BTW: Do you always use the button to close the tray or do you push the tray until it retracts? Just wondering b/c that made a lot of sense.

Does Best Buy or someplace like that fix them? I can't imagine they are expensive.

I always use the button...if you spend so much money on something(keep in mind I bought it when it was 300, not the 179 crap they came up with), it makes sense to treat it right. I'll ask a buddy of mine if he has any experience w/ it(he's a big electronics guy) and if he cant help me, I'll try to research the best price.

You and me both. I take really good care of mine and I also have had since Dec. 2001 when they were 300 bucks also. Guess no matter how much TLC you give something, if it's gonna break it's gonna break.

Look on the bright side: You have about 2 months to get it fixed before Halo 2 should come out...and I know you want to be able to play that!

You're right about that...but not about the release date. Halo has once again been pushed back...this time to june. I went to EB yesterday and booked my copy and they anticipate the earliest release date to be april 1. But SC:Pandora Tomorrow comes out march 13th...I HAVE to get it fixed by then.
