Dark Image & Progressive Scan

I always get such a dark shaky image when I'm recording my home video to the HDD of my panny e80. I read through some posts in a couple of forums and learned that should use Component cables and to change the black level to lighter on output. I have been using s-video previously.

Well, it turns out after I buy my component cables last night that it doesn't work because my television does not support Progressive Scan. Does this sound right?

So I went back to s-video and switched all inputs and outputs to lighter. I still don't see much difference.

Is there anything else I can do?

The picture on the LCD of my video cam is so clear and colorful, is it because it's such a small screen? I wish it would look that way on my tv screen.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

play it back on another tv ... as a tv gets older - they do get darker ...

But my Tv is Brand New! It's a Panny as well and it's a flat screen (not Flat Panel) 27".

Any other suggestions?

What you need to do is go to the setup menu and change the component output from progressive to interlaced and it should do the trick.Now does this happen when you try to record from a vcr? If so what you are getting is a macrovision signal.I hope this helps..
