  1. I have an LG4040B DVD writer. When I started using Nero Recode to copy DVD to DVD, I was using discs that were only able to burn at 2X. I am now using discs that are compatible with my writer at 4X, however, with Nero recode I am only able to select 2.4X as the maximum writing speed. There is no choice for Max as with the main Nero burning ROM program. If I choose to save the transcoded files to the hard drive rather than copy straight to the burner, I can burn at 4X with Nero burning ROM. I can insert the blank DVD on the screen showing the writing speed and it will change to 4X when its inserted. However, it converts back to 2.4X as soon as I take it out.

I could continue to just transcode the files to the hard drive and burn with Nero burning ROM but it would be much simpler and quicker to use Nero Recode completely. By the way I have the latest versions of the complete Nero package.

Any help in getting me to burn at 4X in Nero Recode would be of great assistance!

Could just be the media, have you tried another 4X brand?

  3. The same media burns at 4X using Nero. Using the burn feature within recode I am only able to burn the same media at 2X and only 2.4X is available for the highest burning speed. It is not the media as it does burn at 4X.

I understand your point, maybe Nero does not feel that with a direct burn it can go with 4X safely.

Have you tried unticking 'Burn at Once' in Recode? It might just be a function of burning from files on the HD, rather than Burning Rom vs Recode.

  6. having this same problem. its NOT the media, because they burn @ 4x with every other program (sometimes 8x), the point here is that recode won't let you select a recording speed higher than 2.4x, this is without "copy on the fly" .. if i insert my blank media before i burn, recode will let me select 4x, but when i eject the media to put back in the movie disc (because it still needs to be encoded), recode takes the speed back down to 2.4x. I'm wondering why recode doesn't have a MAX speed option. anyway, recode is a great program even with this annoying thing. does anyone know of how to correct this other than burning to hard drive and then to the media later @ 4x?

  7. also i just noticed that there is a key in the registry that appears that it may have something to do with this speed setting. it's at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ahead\Nero Recode\Preferences\"WriteSpeed" ... the current setting is "WriteSpeed"=dword:00000cfc but i'm not sure how to play with this setting to change it either way. can anyone assist??
    thanks.

And on what scientific principle do you base that sweeping remark on ?

I have used Nero exclusively for many years without problems, as have many others.

  9. Let the Nero slagging off begin ! ....I pity the poor people who cant use Nero as it is a brilliant program catering for all your burning needs and now a lot more to boot !
